Learn how to play YouTube video while screen is off on iOS and in the background. You can play any YouTube videos to listen to the audio like listening to music or podcast while your iOS device screen is off.

Basically, this method doesn’t need an additional app. You’re going to use Safari app which is already pre-installed on every iOS device. With this method you’ll be able to:

  • Play YouTube video while screen is Off
  • Play YouTube video in the background

How to play YouTube video while screen is Off on iOS

  1. Open Safari app.
  2. Go to YouTube website (make sure to open YouTube website within Safari browser and not YouTube app).
  3. Search for the video you want to listen and play the video.
  4. Once the video started playing, turn off your device screen.
  5. Tap Home button to display Control Center.
  6. To continue playing the YouTube video, tap Play.
  7. When the audio started playing, turn off the screen.
  8. The YouTube video will continue playing while the screen is off while you’re doing other stuff off your phone.

How to play YouTube video in the background on iOS

  1. Open Safari app.
  2. Go to YouTube website (make sure to open YouTube website within Safari browser and not YouTube app).
  3. Search for the video you want to listen and play the video.
  4. Tap Sharing button.
  5. Find and select Request Desktop Site.
  6. Start playing the YouTube video.
  7. Tap Safari tabs button.
  8. Switch or add a new tab and load any website.
  9. Tap Home button to go to Home Screen.
  10. The YouTube video will continue playing in the background while you’re doing other stuff on your phone.

Enjoy! Now you can sit back, relax and close your eyes while listening to the YouTube video.
