How to set up Family Sharing on iPhone or iPad

·

Family Sharing provides a convenient and cost-effective way to manage family technology usage, share content, and stay connected. Family Sharing offers several benefits for families:

  • Cost savings:
    • Shared subscriptions: Share subscriptions to Apple services like Apple Music, Apple TV+, and Apple Arcade, significantly reducing costs.
    • App and purchase sharing: Avoid duplicate purchases within the family. If one family member buys an app or in-app purchase, others can download it for free.
  • Parental controls:
    • Control purchases: The family organizer can approve or deny app and in-app purchases made by children.
    • Limit screen time: Set daily time limits and downtime schedules for children’s devices.
    • Restrict content: Control access to age-appropriate content and websites.
  • Location sharing:
    • Peace of mind: Easily locate family members using the Find My app.
    • Coordination: Share locations to coordinate family outings and activities.
  • Shared photo library:
    • Centralized photos: Create a shared family photo library where everyone can contribute and access photos.
  • iCloud storage:
    • Shared storage plan: Share an iCloud storage plan, making it easier to back up devices and store family photos and videos.

Important:

  1. Not all content is eligible to be shared.
  2. Age varies by country or region.
  3. Accepted forms of payment vary by country or region.

Here’s the step-by-step guide to set up Family Sharing:

On your iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap your name.
  2. Tap Family (or Family Sharing), then tap Set Up Your Family.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your family.
  4. Once done, tap Family.
  5. Tap the Add Member button.
    • If your child doesn’t have an Apple Account, tap Create an Account for a Child.
    • But if your child already has an Apple Account, tap Invite People. They can enter their password used for their Apple Account on your device to accept the invitation.
  6. Follow the onscreen instructions to set up parental controls, location sharing and more.

Check if your family member has accepted the invitation

After you send the invitation, you can check the status:

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap Family.
  2. To check the status of the invitation, tap the person’s name.
  3. If you need to resend the invitation, select Resend Invitation.

Join a family group

Accept or decline an invitation to join a family directly from your device. You’ll receive an invitation by email or in a text message. Then you can respond directly from the invitation. If you miss the email or text invitation, follow the steps below to respond from your device. You can only be a part of one family at a time.

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap your name.
  2. Tap Invitations.

To accept an invitation, follow the onscreen instructions. When you join a family, you may be asked to confirm your account information and to opt in to any features or services your family have set up.

If you can’t accept the invitation, check if someone else has joined a family with your Apple Account. Remember, you can only join one family at a time, and you can only switch to a different family group once per year. Visit official site.
