Learn how to force Backspace key function in Google Chrome with “Go Back With Backspace” Chrome add-on. This is good news for those who prefer to use the Backspace key button as a function to return to a previous page.
Recently, Google disabled the Backspace key button function. According to the company, the reason they came out with such a decision is simply that there are too many people who lost their progress while working online by accidentally pressing backspace and leaving a page.
So, they removed the function and created an extension for those who preferred the old behavior. The extension called “Go Back With Backspace” offered by Google is a fix to restore the Backspace key as a back navigation button except if you’re writing text.

Basically, it is the same like any other Chrome extension. You just need to download and install the extension into your Google Chrome browser and start using Backspace button. Here is how you can enable the Backspace button function.
- Launch Google Chrome browser.
- Go to the Chrome Web Store.
- Search for Go Back with Backspace extension.
- Select Add to Chrome.
- In the popup menu, select Add extension.
When you finish installing the extension, if you have any open tabs, they need to be reloaded for the new changes to take effect. After that, you can start using the Backspace button to go back to the previous page.
