Learn how to broadcast video on Facebook Live. With this tutorial, you will be able to broadcast live or pre-recorded video from your computer on your Facebook fan page or Facebook personal profile/group. Trust me, you won’t have to spend any penny to make this work.

You can go live on Facebook Live from your smartphone by simply click Go Live button on your Facebook timeline. As the name suggests, Facebook Live was designed to broadcast live events, not pre-recorded video. But, how if you already have a pre-recorded video or an old video of yours and really wanted to broadcast them on Facebook Live?

In this post, I’m going to list down a complete step-by-step on how you can broadcast a pre-recorded video on Facebook Live. This tutorial will include broadcasting any pre-recorded video on your Facebook business/fan page and your Facebook personal profile/group. Let’s get it started.

Note: You have to have a good internet connection to broadcast the video or make everything work properly.

Prerequisite

I’m assuming you have a Facebook personal account or Facebook fan page. It is important to have either one to be able to broadcast the video.

First, you need to download and install the free software known as Open Broadcaster Software Studio or OBS Studio from this link.

It is available for Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. Make sure to download OBS Studio, not OBS Classic.

Broadcast video on Facebook Live

Now, you should decide whether to go live on your Facebook business/fan page or personal profile/group. Steps for getting the stream key from Facebook for these two are slightly different, so make your decision now.

1. Getting the Stream Key for broadcasting on Facebook business/fan page

  1. Go to your Facebook business/fan page.
  2. Click on Publishing Tools tab.
  3. Under Videos sub-menu on the left, select Video Library.
  4. At the top right of the Video Library window, click + Live.
  5. In the new windows, under Stream Key, there is a box, highlight and copy everything in the box.

2. Getting the Stream Key for broadcasting on Facebook personal profile/group

  1. Click this link to go to the page.
  2. Click Create Live Stream button.
  3. In Choose Where to Post Your Live Stream window, select your preference and click Next button.
  4. In the new windows, under Stream Key, there is a box, highlight and copy everything in the box.

Stream live your video with OBS Studio

  1. Launch OBS Studio on your computer.
  2. On OBS Studio main screen, click Settings and select Stream.
  3. In Stream settings window, use the following configuration:
    • Stream Type: Streaming Services
    • Service: Facebook
    • Server: Default
    • Stream key: {paste the stream key you copied from Step 2a or 2b above}
  4. Click OK button to save the changes and to go to OBS Studio main screen.
  5. On OBS Studio main screen, under Sources, click + and select Media Source.
  6. On a popup window, you can give a name for the new media source and click Ok or just click Ok to use the recommended name.
  7. Browse to your video folder and select your video to broadcast and click Open.
  8. On OBS Studio main screen, click Start Streaming.
  9. Now, go back to your Facebook fan page/personal/group, depend on where you get the stream key in Step 2. Make sure you fill in all the detail such as your status and the basic video information.
  10. Click Go Live button to start broadcasting your video on Facebook Live.
