One of the trick to prevent unwanted device to connect to your Wifi network is to make it hidden. By making it hidden, people nearby won’t be able to find it and try to connect to it. So, in this tutorial, I’ll show you how to hide Unifi Wifi network name.
In another words, you don’t broadcast the SSID. In every modem or router, there’s a option for the owner to decide whether to broadcast or not the SSID. If you choose to broadcast, it means every one nearby can see the Wifi network name when they turn on their Wifi.
However, if you choose not to broadcast the SSID, even the owner can’t see the Wifi network name. It will need additional steps to connect to it and at the same time lower the risk of others to connect to it. Don’t worry, I have provided the steps to connect to a hidden Wifi network at the end of this article.
Note: I’m using TM default modem router for this tutorial which is Netis router model no DL4480V2.

Make sure your computer is connected to the Wifi network, then continue with the following steps:
- Open any internet browser.
- Go to http://192.168.1.1/.
- Enter your login information:
- Username: tmadmin
- Password: Adm@**** (**** is the last 4 digit of MAC address)
- From the menu, click WLAN.
- On the left menu, under wlan0 (2.4GHz) section, click Advanced Settings.
- Toogle the setting to Off for Broadcast SSID option.
- Click Apply Changes.
- Now, do for band 5GHz. On the left menu, click wlan1 (5GHz).
- Click Advanced Settings.
- Toogle the setting to Off for Broadcast SSID option.
- Click Apply Changes.
- Done.
Once your Unifi Wifi network name is hidden, you won’t see the network name in the list of available Wifi networks when you turn on the Wifi.
From now on, you need to manually enter the Wifi network name whenever you want to connect to it. Usually for the first time when you connect the device to it. Once connected, the device can remember the Wifi network name and you can set connect automatically.
