How to disable media auto-download in Telegram

Do you get annoyed when all media displayed on Telegram chat were auto-download to your phone? Even when you disable save to gallery option, sometimes they were just inappropriate.

The way Telegram handle media is, by default the media will be auto-download when you scroll to that particular chat or media. So, you won’t know if there are media or not, and everything just downloaded to your phone.

Disable media auto-download in Telegram

  1. Open Telegram app.
  2. Tap on the 3-horizontal lines to open the menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Data and Storage.
  5. Look for Automatic media download section.
  6. Slide the toggle next to When using mobile data.
  7. Slide the toggle next to When connected on Wifi.
  8. Slide the toggle next to When roaming.

All changes done on this page will be auto-save.

Here’s another important part, I think you should disable auto-play media too.

Disable auto-play media in Telegram

  1. Open Telegram app.
  2. Tap on the 3-horizontal lines to open the menu.
  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Data and Storage.
  5. Look for Auto-play media section.
  6. Slide the toggle next to GIFs.
  7. Slide the toggle next to Videos.

All changes done on this page will be auto-save.
