Look up different websites and platforms
LinkedIn has quickly become the place to use when you’re in search of a job. You can upload your resume and add previous employers for recommendations. It’s a great way to network with people you haven’t met yet and allows you to directly contact HR managers and recruiters who may be on the lookout for new employees.
· Upwork
Upwork is the platform for freelancing jobs, from legal work to designing and web development. Clients hire in an array of fields, and besides being able to apply for as many jobs as you’d like, you can also find long-term work. Moreover, you can set fixed assignments with your desired rates, and clients can hire you directly from your own page upon agreeing with your preferences.
· Fiverr
Fiverr is a website for artists. You can now find different types of projects there. However, it is more suitable for anyone looking for a gig in illustration, photoshopping, design, and some content writing. What’s great about Fiverr is that you can upload your personal portfolio, and clients can immediately see if you’re the right fit for their project. It works as a personal website that you can share with any employer.
· Shiply
Shiply is another platform for specialized work. Here you’ll find available truck loads to fill your truck and make your next delivery. This platform lists plenty of loads every day, so you can be sure you’ll find something that fits your needs.
Just like Fiverr or Shiply, you can easily find platforms that are specific to your industry if you find it difficult to get hired in the more generalized websites like Upwork.
What to look for when applying for a job online:
There are a few things you need to pay attention to when applying for jobs online, though.
- Number one, make sure you search for the employer or company before you apply. You want to know they’re a trusted source, and you might as well check their employee’s reviews on Glassdoor or similar reviewing websites.
- Then, read through the job offer and match the keywords you find to your motivation letter and resume. Employers will be looking for certain skills, and if they’ve named them in their offer, it’s because the best candidate will have them, so add those words to your application.
- Another thing to look out for is if the job offer sounds too good to be true. Unfortunately, many independent contractors take advantage of people who are just beginning in the work industry. Do your research, then do some more.
Be cautious when applying for jobs online. However, don’t be afraid to send out your resume when something pops up, and you find it interesting. Even if you’re contacted by the employer, it doesn’t mean you have to accept the job. Therefore you’ve got nothing to lose!
