Giler Unlimited GX50 is a postpaid plan offered by U Mobile. It is similar to Hero Postpaid P79 but GX50 comes at a cheaper price. However, with cheaper price means you will get lower (capped) speed and data to share with your friends (hotspot). Other than these, basically they are the same package.
Pros of U Mobile GX50 plan
- No contract
- Unlimited data all day
- Unlimited data on all apps
- Unlimited call to all network
First and foremost, GX50 plan comes with no contract. This is one good thing.
GX50 is a postpaid plan which is bundled with unlimited data. The unlimited data can be utilized on any days, any apps, any types of usage, and unlimited calls to any network.
This unlimited data is meant for your personal use on your smartphone, not for sharing with other device or tethering (hotspot).
Cons of U Mobile GX50 plan
- Speed capped at 5Mbps
- Hotspot/tethering data only 5GB
- 10 sen / SMS to all network including U Mobile
As I mention above, the internet speed for GX50 is capped at 5Mbps only. Basically, this is a 4G/LTE line with a speed of 3G.
The free hotspot is 5GB, just enough for surfing and some light work but not for streaming. Interestingly, this 5GB has no speed cap.
(The question of why U Mobile can’t provide free SMS to all network is still bothering me…)
Things to consider
The major issue with U Mobile is their coverage and connectivity. Based on user feedback on their Facebook and Twitter account and also my own experience, I can see that U Mobile still have a lot of things to improve especially the coverage.
The connection is not stable, sometimes it can be very good and sometimes it can be very irritating when the connection intermittently connected and disconnected.
If you are considering to port-in to U Mobile, make sure to check their coverage at your place. You can go to U Mobile Coverage Map website by visiting
https://www.u.com.my/support/coverage or click this link.
It’s a cheap package for moderate usage. This plan should be sufficient if the coverage is good at your area. Don’t buy this before checking the coverage, you will end up cursing U Mobile.
If you have any issue with U Mobile service, I suggest you can directly contact them on their Twitter account @umobile, they look very responsive.
