Install and setup MYTV decoder Basic and Advance

Learn how to install and setup MYTV decoder Basic and Advance to access and enjoy myFreeview Digital Broadcast channels and services. You will need MYTV decoder (Type DVB-T2) Basic or Advance, a UHF aerial (indoor or outdoor) and an HDMI or AV cable.

Basically, there are two options to receive the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) on your television:

  • Option 1: Use an old TV set as long as it has an HDMI/AV input that can be connected to the MYTV decoder with Type DVB-T2 receiver or
  • Option 2: Use a new TV set (with the DTTV label approved by SIRIM) with integrated Digital Television (iDTV) that comes with digital TV tuner

In this tutorial, I will focus on Option 1 to access myFreeview and watch all the available channels. At this moment, myFreeview offers access to TV1, TV2, TV3, NTV7, 8TV, TV9, TV AlHijrah, TVi, and Bernama News Channel.

How to install and setup MYTV decoder Basic and Advance

Step 1: Make sure you have all the following:

  • MYTV decoder (Type DVB-T2) – Basic or Advance
  • UHF aerial – indoor or outdoor (recommended)
  • Cable – HDMI or AV

Step 2: Install the (indoor or outdoor) UHF aerial at a proper location.

Step 3: Connect the UHF aerial cable to ANT IN port at the back of the decoder.

Step 4: Plug in the HDMI/RCA cable to the port at the back of the decoder and connect to the television.

Step 5: Connect the power adaptor and turn On the decoder.

Step 6: Change the television mode to HDMI or AV mode depending on the cable you use in Step 4:

  • Choose HDMI mode if you are using HDMI cable or
  • Choose AV mode if you are using RCA cable

For first time setting:

You will be asked to select your preferred language.

Step 1: Use the left or right arrow on the remote control to navigate and click “OK” to choose.

Step 2: Then, choose your preferred antenna as you installed in Step 2.

Step 3: Press the Blue Button on the remote control to start searching and scanning for the channel.

Step 4: Once the auto-scan completed, channel 1 will be displayed on the television screen. Done.

To re-configure channels:

To re-set your channels, you can use auto or manual scanning mode per following:

Auto scanning mode

Step 1: On the remote control, press “Menu” button.

Step 2: Select “Channel Search”.

Step 3: Select “Auto scanning” mode and click “Ok”.

Step 4: Key in the pin number “0000” (four digits zero).

Step 5: Wait for the scanning to be completed. Once done, channel 1 will be displayed on the screen.

Manual scanning mode

Step 1: On the remote control, press “Menu” button.

Step 2: Select “Channel Search”.

Step 3: Select “Manual scanning” mode and click “Ok”.

Step 4: Key in the pin number “0000” (four digits zero).

Step 5: While manually searching for the channel, look at the Strength and Quality meter turn to green.

Step 6: If you are satisfied, press the Blue Button to save the channel.
