Connect to a hidden Wifi network on Windows PC

Learn how to connect to a hidden Wifi network on Windows computer. If you are using “Do not broadcast” or “Hide” your Wifi in the router or modem setting, you won’t be able to find your Wifi network using Auto mode on your computer. In order to connect to a hidden Wifi network, you need to manually key-in the network name and the network security key.

Hiding your Wifi network is one of few ways to secure your network. Not many people do this, but sometimes it is can be very effective to avoid stranger from searching and connecting to your Wifi network. As the name suggest, strangers will not be able to see the hidden Wifi network in the list of the available network on their computer.

The best part is, not only other people can’t see your Wifi network, you as the Wifi network owner also will not be able to see the network under the available network on your computer. So, if you can’t see the network, how do you connect to the network? I received a lot of similar question regarding connecting Windows computer to a hidden wireless network and here is how.

How to connect to a hidden Wifi network on Windows PC

Step 1: Turn On your Windows PC or computer.

Step 2: Right-click on the wireless icon and click “Open Network and Sharing Center”.

Step 3: Under “Change your networking settings” menu, click “Set up a new connection or network”.

Step 4: Under “Choose a connection option”, select “Manually connect to a wireless network” and click “Next” button.

Step 5: In “Enter information for the wireless network you want to add” window, fill in the following:

  • Network name = your Wifi network name or SSID
  • Security type = choose your Wifi network security type; WEP/WPA2
  • Encryption type = based on the Security type you select
  • Security key = your network security key or password

Step 6: Tick “Start this connection automatically”.

Step 7: Tick “Connect even if the network is not broadcasting”.

Step 8: Click on “Next” button.

Done. If all of the information you input are correct, Windows will find the Wifi network and your computer will be connected automatically. If it is wrong, you need to repeat above steps with the correct information.
