Change the DNS server on iPhone or iPad

When your iPhone or iPad is connected to the Wifi network, it usually will use the DNS server provided by the Wifi network. However, it is possible for you to choose which DNS server to be used. Here is how you can change the DNS server on your iPhone or iPad:

How to change the DNS server on iPhone or iPad

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, turn the Wifi on and connect to any Wifi network.
  2. On your iPhone or iPad Home Screen, find Settings app and tap to open it.
  3. Tap on Wifi to open the Wifi settings page.
  4. On the Wifi setting page, find the Wifi network you wanted to change the DNS server and tap the blue i located on the right of the Wifi name.
  5. Scroll down the information page, under DNS section, tap on Configure DNS.
  6. Tap on Manual at the top of the screen, it will automatically add new DNS server. Tap on the red minus sign located on the left of this new DNS server to remove it.
  7. Tap on the green plus sign beside Add Server and type the IP address of the DNS server you preferred.
    1. If you preferred Google Public DNS, set the DNS server per following:
      • DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
      • DNS 2: 8.8.4.4
    2. If you preferred Open DNS, set the DNS server per following:
      • DNS 1: 208.67.222.222
      • DNS 2: 208.67.220.220
  8. Once done, tap Save at the top right of the screen to save the new setting.

Note: Your iPhone or iPad will remember the setting even after you disconnect them. However, if you choose to Forget network, you will have to do this again from the beginning.
